Stylish Cardiff Brasserie, The Sorting Room, Added to Michelin Guide

The Sorting Room at the Parkgate Hotel has been added to the Michelin Guide as part of the Inspectors’ Favourite New Restaurants list.

Located within the Parkgate Hotel – one of Cardiff’s newest, luxury destinations – the vibrant brasserie restaurant and bar opened its doors in October 2021, adding a touch of style and glamour to the city’s culinary scene.

Set in the former Head Post Office, built in 1897 to commemorate the Diamond Jubilee celebrations of Queen Victoria, The Sorting Room echoes the elegance and glamour of its rich history. Amidst glittering chandeliers and plush leather sofas, diners can enjoy leisurely lunches, showstopping dinners and a selection of fine wines, Brecon craft beers and signature cocktails.

The British menu showcases the best of Welsh produce, with Welsh beef Wellington and rarebit just a couple of the tantalising highlights on offer, along with indulgent afternoon teas and sumptuous Sunday lunches.

The Inspectors’ Report paid tribute to The Sorting Room’s offering: “The Parkgate Hotel is an elegant new addition to the Welsh capital – and the Sorting Room is its smart brasserie, where service comes with a smile. Dishes like pan-roasted chicken breast or beef Wellington are carefully cooked and well-presented.”

The Michelin Guide online listing adds: “Set within an impressive, modish hotel this elegant, brasserie-style spot boasts leather banquettes, attentive staff and a wide-ranging menu of British dishes.”
