Post-lockdown dining at Wahaca, Cardiff

After several months of lockdown, the whole of Cardiff is finally opening back up, and although normality is still a distant memory, the reopening of our favourite restaurants is on top of everyone’s mind.

Walking through the streets of Cardiff on Monday night was a completely different atmosphere now that masks are compulsory in Wales. If you are parking within a shopping centre before an evening meal,  you must remember to wear a mask.  Like everywhere for the foreseeable future, once you entre Wahaca you can take off your mask but you must sanitize your hands and stay seated at your allocated table. All staff are seen to be wearing their masks and washing their hands consistently throughout your visit.

Despite the new changes of inside dining, we as a team were very excited to try Wahaca’s new mouth-watering menu. We started with the Mexico City nachos, which contained chorizo, cheese sauce, tomatillo and avocado salsa. For our main, we picked a variety of dishes, such as the slow-cooked beef tacos, chicken club quesadilla, and their new sweet potato bravas served with serrano allioli and smoky hibiscus dip. It is definitely one to try!

After our very filling mains, we needed a sweet treat fix. For dessert, we tried their crispy churros with a rich chocolate sauce and their chocolate & pecan brownie with salted caramel ice cream and dulce de leche sauce. It definitely hit the spot! Finally, to finish, we indulged in their strong coffee.

The restaurant has a great ambience with vibrant music being played in the background. The laidback atmosphere provides the perfect environment to get back to social interactions with loved ones. With its new Mexican menu, there is definitely something for all the family to enjoy.

Whether you want to dress to impress, relax with the family or call in after work, Wahaca is the place for you. It’s guaranteed to be at the top of everyone’s post lockdown venues to visit in Cardiff.
