Our top 5 beer gardens in Cardiff.

What could be better than a jug of fruity Pimms or an ice cold pint in the sun whilst canoodling with friends or family?

As the sun tries to break through the spring haze, it’s time to mull over a prime city location for drinks and relaxation in our wonderful capital city.

The team at Style of the City have been out and about in our nation’s capital sipping and savouring what the pubs in Cardiff have to offer. So in no particular order, here is our guide to the top 5 beer gardens in Cardiff. Why not give one of them a try this weekend?

The Cricketers

Set in a characteristic Victorian townhouse, just behind the SWALEC cricket stadium, The Cricketers offers a huge range of Welsh ales from their sister brewery, Evan Evans in Llandeillo. Since opening in 2010, it has become a firm favourite for its position, but the sunny beer garden in summer is the real pull. Lots of space, plenty of parasols, and an extra bar housed inside a gazebo on busy match days. Just right!

2) The Depot

This is in fact a 24,000sq foot, abandoned warehouse just 5 minutes walk from Cardiff central station, which has been changed into a flexible, pop-up events space. Since re-opening the shutters in May 2016, it has played host to a busy schedule of ‘street food’ events, and also exposed a trendy, bulb-lit beer garden out back which is just right for drinking hipster cocktails outside.

3) The Robin Hood

A pub with faithful locals and a great ambience, the owners will be the first to tell you that this is the very pub which used to be owned by the Churches — that’s right, Charlotte Church’s family. Per se, keep your eyes open for Welsh celebrities. In the back beer garden there are lots of chairs and a pizza oven, and out the front there’s immense people-watching under the canopy. Find it near posh Pontcanna, bustling Canton and a short stroll from the city center.

4) Juno Lounge

This nonchalant restaurant-bar has an attractive roof top beer garden and is in the heart of the Roath area of Cardiff. You can’t help but feel tranquil here with the retro vibe and touches like board games and up cycled furniture. Order a juice, a pint or a glass of wine and from the food menu an all-day breakfast, burger or maybe some tapas.

5) The Plymouth Arms

Expect rustic charm and Tudor beauty, carpeted pub with fires, wood panelling and framed pictures, also offering beer garden and pub grub. Nestled just a stone throw away from The Welsh History Museum, the beer garden is overlooking a historical parish church.
