London Fashion Week: Livia Tang A/W19

On Sunday evening designer Livia Tang brought Fashion Scout and LFW to a close, in the presentation studio at Freemasons’ Hall.

Livia Tang is a London based young contemporary brand built to fulfil the curiosity of one’s cultural cravings with understated romance and genuine craftsmanship. Having moved to the UK from Macau in 2008, she graduated from the University for Creative Arts, Rochester in 2014. Having gained experience at the Simone Rocha and Sarah Baadarani studio, the first collection was launched in 2017.

The special bond between siblings, a celebration of brotherhood and sisterhood, and Japanese textiles. This is the spirit of the collection, which originated in historic images of twins.

The starting point of the collection was historic images of sisters and brothers. The combination of masculine fabrics like corduroy with feminine lame woven jacquard and substantial handwoven tapestry translates into the connection between durability and blessing of sibling love. This inspired the use of mainly sustainable fabrics, such as linen and recycled viscose, to communicate long-lasting attachment.

The collection presents an idea of a twin look, with double-sided fabrics: indigo tweed, lilac woollen cotton blends, a houndstooth pattern cotton blend and ivory linen jacquard. All the beading and trimmings are created with natural materials and processes, mainly jade and shell, cord used as straps and fastenings.

With each element, from floral tapestry and patchwork to traditional weaving used in top stitching, the designer cherishes the tenacious relationship between siblings.
