Laings Celebrates International Women’s Day

The women of Laings share their journey to becoming influential voices in the world of watches and jewellery.

For over 185 years, luxury jeweller, Laings have championed opportunities for women. From the shopfloor to the board of directors, each  has left a fingerprint on Laings, contributing ideas, improving client experience and learning from one another. Laings invites you to meet the women behind the brand and the people in their lives that inspire them.

Serena Gough –  Services Director

Leading the Bespoke and Services department, Serena Gough has been  with Laings since 2019. Appointed to the Board of Directors in 2023, Serena has been an inspiring figurehead within the company, growing the team and championing the opportunities for women in her department.

‘My journey at Laings has been one of innovation and imagination. I have felt so uplifted during my time here, and it feels only right to continue fostering that same environment for the wonderful women on my team. My aim is to ensure that women’s voices are not only heard but championed within the watch and jewellery industry, and I hope that my time at Laings has, in some small way, helped contribute to that progress.’

Sally Fenton – Jewellery CAD Designer

Where ideas become reality, Jewellery CAD designer, Sally Fenton plays a pivotal role in the design process. Transforming drawings into 3D models, the evolution of each piece has been a rewarding part of Sally’s journey across her seven years at Laings. Sally has been able to see growth in her team with the addition of another female CAD designer  and is excited to share ideas together and learn from one other. Reflecting on the people who have shaped her path, Sally is reminded of one figure in particular whose influence continues to guide her.

‘At Laings, I’m surrounded by inspiring women but someone who stands out to me in my life is my Auntie. She has always been there for me with words of wisdom and encouragement. I’ve watched her embrace challenges with strength, grace and positivity which has never ceased to amaze me. She was a kind and creative business owner as well as a talented CAD designer. Knowing I’m following in her footsteps empowers me every day’.

Amy Chu – Goldsmith

Joining Laings after completing her studies at Glasgow School of Art, Amy Chu, has worked from apprentice to fully qualified goldsmith. With four years of internal training in the Glasgow Service Centre and Showroom, Amy has contributed to multiple collections as well as special pieces for clients, becoming a valued and trusted member of the team.

My career has very much been shaped by my time at Laings. I have been lucky enough to be surrounded by some great women at the start of my career who really showedme the way and made me feel confident that this was my calling.’

Felicity Lynden – Senior Jewellery Designer 

Approaching a decade of working for Laings, Felicity Lynden brought with her a wealth of experience and training. Completing a BA (Hons) in Jewellery and Silversmithing from University of Edinburgh, Felicity completed work experience in Bath before finding her position at Laings. Finding joy in every element of the design process, Felicity’s passion is constantly ignited by the wonderful moment when a client collects their final piece.

‘Laings have been continually invested in my development from diamond and gemstone training in Antwerp, to attending UK industry events and awards. I can’t say I’m inspired by one single figure as I’m continually uplifted by the wonderful women I work alongside. Across the business, there are so many talented individuals with various experience, creativity and insight. What inspires me most about Laings is everyone’s willingness to share their knowledge openly; this is something I previously found to be a real challenge in the jewellery industry, however, has been a real source of growth in my time here.’

Tara Blackley – Production Manager

With around 14 years of experience in stock management, inventory control and purchasing, Tara Blackley brings professionalism and expertise to her role every day at Laings. Beginning  as a stock assistant, Tara has been able to develop throughout the company and has been nurtured to reaching her full potential as Production Manager.

The woman who has most inspired me in my life is my mum. She has always shown such incredible strength and kindness whilst balancing work, family and everything else that comes with life. Her determination and support have taught me resilience, patience and courage that I hope I emulate at my role in Laings.’

 

Laings offers a variety of different roles across their showrooms and Head Office, each coming together to form a team that upholds the pillars of excellence that have become synonymous with the celebrated home of fine jewellery and watches.
