A stone’s throw from the ever-popular Penarth Pier, nestled in perfect picturesque elegance lies ‘Holm House’; a place to while away the time in pure bliss. Style of the city decided to take a trip and see what all the fuss was about…
On a warm and sunny afternoon, strolling along the pier and enjoying the familiar views of Penarth beach, followed by a sweeping birdseye view of the coast as you get to the top of the hill, Holm House is quite the sight to behold. The house was built in 1926 and from the grand entrance, intricate architectural detail and garden landscapes, you feel a sense of real class; almost ‘old world.’
Upon entering the spa, we were immediately greeted by head beauty therapist, Abi, who gave us a tour of th spa space. Upstairs the relaxation area has magnificent views overlooking the Bristol Channel and across the ocean to the islands of Flatholm and Steepholm. The atmosphere at Holm is very special, there is an aura of sophistication; you almost forget you’re on home ground, and all the stresses of the day simply drift away.
The facial treatment I received from Abi made my skin feel renewed and tightened. Her professionalism and years of experience were clearly apparent: she automatically identified my skin type and recommended the appropriate treatment. As a busy working mum, she gave me a bespoke facial and her attention to detail and extensive knowledge made me feel very at ease.
Following my treatment, we headed to the restaurant area to sample the Afternoon Tea; and we soon realised that we were in for a treat. The service was exceptional and we were served a glass of bubbly by the attentive waiting staff, who made the experience something to be remembered. The savoury and sweet collection of sandwiches and cakes was delicious and the selection of teas ranged from the traditional English to Strawberry and Cream. Yes, they have that!
Holm House is simply perfection. Our visit provided a feeling of warm welcome, whilst surrounded in old world grandeur. This is the ultimate destination for an afternoon (or longer!) of indulgence – and we can’t wait to visit again.
