Historic Hotel named best in Wales just six months after re-opening

Just six month after re-opening, The Royal George, Tintern, Monmouthshire has been
awarded The Times and The Sunday Times Best Places to Stay 2026 winner for Wales.
Revealed in its definitive list of the 50 Best Places to Stay from across the UK by The Times
and The Sunday Times, the guide says a “revamp of the rooms and an impressive new
restaurant by Welsh Designers The Mint List, are set to put it on the tourist map.”

The judges praised its 20 snug rooms and restaurant, which are “decked out in earthy
greens and oranges in a nod to the Wye Valley’s forests. The new Upper Deck restaurant is
well worth planning a stay around.”
The guide focuses on the things that really matter; hotels with the essentials of comfort,
great service and value, as well as personality and warmth and which The Royal George
embodies in all its aspects.

Camilla Kelly, Lead Designer and Founder of The Mint List says, ‘I’m delighted that our work at The Royal George has been recognised in the guide. It’s fantastic that the judges noted the care and attention that we took to recognise the rich landscape that surrounds Tintern and how it translated into the design scheme.”

Joe Costa, Operations, Regional Manager, Greyheath Hospitality says, ‘We are thrilled that
The Royal George has been selected as The Times and The Sunday Times Best Places to
Stay 2026 winner in Wales. Having been open for such a short time this is a wonderful
accolade.”
