The rumour mill went into overdrive last week when Megan Markle arrived at the wedding of Princess Eugenie wearing a buttoned-up coat which she kept on for the entire ceremony. As soon as Meghan was seen wearing the heavy navy coat over a Givenchy dress speculations of pregnancy began circulating.
The rumours have been proven correct as Harry and Meghan announced this morning that they are expecting their first child. A statement from Kensington Palace announced that ‘Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are very pleased to announce that The Duchess of Sussex is expecting a baby in the Spring of 2019’.
The couple who are currently on their first trip as a married couple on a 16-day tour of Australia are said to be ‘delighted to share the happy news with the public’.
Meghan is believed to be just over three months pregnant with the baby who will be the seventh in line to the throne. After being told the news at Princess Eugenie’s wedding the Queen, Duke of Edinburgh, Prince of Wales and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were all understood to be ‘delighted’ for them.
Meghan’s mother Doria Ragland ‘looks forward to welcoming her first grandchild’ and is ‘very happy about this lovely news’. Some have even speculated that she may move to London in order to help look after her grandchild as it is believed that Meghan does not want to hire a nanny or staff to help with childcare.
Meghan and Harry have both previously spoken about how much they would love to have children. The Duchess once described motherhood as being on her ‘bucket list’ while Harry, who is a Godfather to several children, said in their engagement interview that he hoped they’d ‘start a family in the near future’.
Kensington Palace has confirmed that there will be ‘no changes’ to the planned royal tour of Australia, Fiji, Tonga and New Zealand following the announcement of Meghan’s pregnancy.
