The Celebrity Cup have announced the first three names for the tournament hosted by the Celtic Manor.
Presenter Michelle Owen will be representing Wales. She joins last year’s competitors, radio presenter Jenni Falconer and Mrs Brown’s Boys star Jennifer Gibney, who will represent Scotland and Ireland.
Organisers are also hoping to get an English star involved to have a woman from all four nations competing.
Until gearing up for last year’s tournament, Falconer had never picked up a golf club before. She said, “Hitting that first shot in front of so many people was absolutely terrifying.
“The Scotland boys really looked after me and the crowd were so friendly and encouraging. I can’t wait to get back and hopefully show how much my game has improved.”
Wales’ representative, Michelle Owen, is presenter and reporter for Sky Sports, appearing for the last five years on Soccer Saturday. She also presents for Sky Sports News, as well as writing for various newspapers and recording podcasts.
Wales took home the trophy last year, captained by TV and radio presenter Gethin Jones. His team members included rugby legends Jonathan Davies, Ieuan Evans, Sir Gareth Edwards and Scott Quinnell, and television actor Phil Glenister.
The Celebrity Cup was launched in 2013. Four teams are formed and the celebrity golfers play each other over nine holes in a round-robin matchplay format, leading to a final and third-place play-off.
Last year’s winners, Wales, also won in 2015; England has also taken the trophy home twice in 2017 and 2014, as have Scotland in 2013 and 2016. Ireland is yet to have its glory.
Golf fans and celebrity spotters alike will be in attendance of the cup, hosted on 13th-14th July. Guests can expect friendly rivalry, top-notch celebrity golfing as well as food, live music and bar areas.
