The ‘Victory to the Miners’ Runway Show sold out, with 250 attendees gathering at Cornerstone Cardiff to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the end of the Welsh miners’ strikes. The event celebrated Wales’ rich industrial heritage while showcasing the future of sustainable fashion. Proceeds from ticket sales, along with additional donations collected on the night, were raised in aid of City Hospice.
The evening opened with a live, stripped-back performance by Swansea-based band Subterrania, setting the tone for an immersive and emotional showcase. The runway show, presented bilingually by Rhydian Bowen Phillips – a well-known presenter for the BBC and Cardiff City Football Club – brought the night’s theme to life.
Models walked the runway holding ‘Cambrian Type No.1 Miners Safety Lamps’ as the Aber Valley Male Voice Choir performed traditional Welsh songs, creating a powerful tribute to Wales’ mining communities. The show featured Cambrensis’ archive pieces, alongside a collaborative collection with Welsh sustainable streetwear designer Nia Jade, celebrating a fusion of heritage craftsmanship and contemporary design.
