Desg, the award-winning co-working and office community, is opening a new site at Park Place in Cardiff city centre and is also welcoming property developer Miles Davies as a new director and shareholder.
Desg was established in 2020 by property expert Ross Hooper-Nash who wanted to create a thriving design led co-working space where companies and entrepreneurs could work, meet and collaborate.
Desg on Penhill Road was the first space that Ross developed and is now home to some of Cardiff’s most innovative and exciting businesses.
Miles Davies, who already has successful and long-standing business interests with Ross, is joining the Desg group with a view to expanding the existing Desg portfolio and the pair have ambitious plans to grow the business.
Miles, who started his career in banking, initially in Hong Kong and then in the City of London, brings a wealth of commercial and property experience to the partnership. He and Ross first met nearly 10 years ago when Ross was showing Miles around a property, and they set up Ventura Properties (Cardiff) Ltd in February 2019, with the intention of finding and developing land and properties.
Miles and Ross believe this new partnership will open up exciting possibilities to grow the brand and business by expanding into additional locations across the Welsh capital and beyond.
Miles said: “Ross set up Desg from 11-13 Penhill Road five years ago and through the success of that space had received a number of approaches from property developers and business owners, that presented several opportunities to expand the brand and business into new sites in Cardiff.
“Given our relationship and our existing involvements in commercial property it made sense for me to come onboard with the aim of growing the business together and expanding to new sites. We’ve hit the ground running by incorporating St Andrew’s Crescent into the Desg portfolio and the new offices in Park Place are ready to welcome our new tenants and hot desk members. We already have a number of tenants and memberships ready to move into Park Place and look forward to welcoming them to the Desg group.”
Miles added: “We’re excited about the future of Desg. It is a proper grown up office and co-working space. Ross set up the first premises with a vision of how he and like-minded individuals may want to work, and Penhill Road has developed into a productive and collaborative space. Our members not only have access to a creative working space, but the ability to use a gym in the building, take a break to walk through Llandaff fields, and even pop upstairs to the bar for a drink after work. No ping pong or table football in sight!
“It has already been a great success in the five years since the first site opened, and we have big plans to expand the brand and make it the go-to shared office space in Cardiff and beyond.”
Ross, who is also the founder of Jeffrey Ross Estate Agents, and director of Seel & Co, Knights Estate Agents, Brinsons and ACJ Sales and Lettings, said he is delighted to be partnering again with Miles and is looking forward to growing the Desg brand.
He said: “It’s great to have Miles on board. I love the whole concept of Desg, and I have been proud watching our tenants grow and progress at our sites around the city. It is great that we have been able to do the same with the Desg concept, and now we are able to expand further with Park Place opening soon and more sites in the pipeline.”
Ross continued: “Covid changed what businesses and employees want from an office space and so we have tried to incorporate that in our offering to both our permanent tenants, as well as our co-workers. At Desg in Penhill Road for example we are dog friendly, have a gym, wellness classes, social evenings for tenants and co-working members, including pizza Fridays. There are meeting rooms you can rent, booths that you can book to hold smaller meetings, as well as flexible and friendly co working spaces – and of course bottomless coffee and a bar. Members also have the option to access all of our locations. Desg is a lot more than just a working space.
“We will be offering the best office accommodation available in the city and are looking forward to developing that offering to more businesses in Wales.”
As well as Desg Penhill Road, there is also a Desg Cathedral Road which has private fixed offices, a communal kitchen and shower facilities and Desg St Andrews Crescent, which has private fixed offices with parking available, meeting spaces and private and communal Kitchens.
Desg Park Place, which will have private fixed offices with parking available, co-working memberships, hot desks, meeting spaces and communal kitchen/bar/breakout space and shower and changing facilities is expected to open on April 7th.
