The inspirational Ashley Davis takes on marathon for NSPCC

How often do we complain that times are tough and we are ready to throw in the towel? Excuse after excuse and procrastination is the order of the day for most of us. Speaking to Ashley Davis, it’s easy to feel humbled.

In 2008, Ashley suffered severe spinal injuries after enduring a horrific motorcycle accident which saw him hospitalised in Cardiff’s Rookwood Hospital for 14 months.

Can’t’ is an expression that is completely missing from his terminology.

At the age of 29, Ashley has crossed off a number of chief achievements from his list. These include; being British number one in table tennis and 2 times British Champion, playing international level tennis, getting married in 2014, adopting a beautiful baby, studying to become a counsellor and most recently, training for the prestigious Newport Marathon this Sunday 29th April.

Ashley will complete this 26 mile course in a wheelchair and following a strict regiment, has been training on a daily basis.

All of the money raised by Ashley is being donated to the NSPCC. At the moment, these funds are reaching the £1000 mark, almost doubling his target. Ashley, with all of his ambition and drive, will be taking on the race for the charity which he describes as “incredibly close to my heart.”

This year’s ABP Newport Wales Marathon will provide a brand new running experience. The highly anticipated race will finally meet the requirments for a premier marathon distance large participation occasion in Wales, made available by the support of Associated British Ports, Newport City Council and the Welsh Government.

The course will be one of the UK’s flattest and swiftest marathon courses – taking in a multitude of iconic landmarks, charming medieval villages and Newport’s newly regenerated city-centre.

You can cheer on Ashley, starting at 9am on Sunday 29th April on Usk Way, University of South Wales entrance. You can also donate to this very worthy cause on JustGiving.
