The Oscars 2019 – Best Dressed

The Acadamy Awards (The Oscars) is one of, if not THE, biggest award shows in the world. The stars line the red carpet, some make daring outfit choices and others keep it classic. If there’s a night to go glam it’s this night. We’ve put together our Oscars Best Dressed list with our favourite looks from the red carpet, as well as some honourable mentions from the Vanity Fair afterparty.

Jennifer Lopez

Wearing Tom Ford

Oh JLo, can she do no wrong? Although her gown is intricate with mirrored and jewelled embellishment, the shape is simple meaning she can get away with so much going on. A classic JLo smokey eye, sleek hair, and glam accessories are the perfect finishing touches to this look.

Ashley Graham

Wearing Zac Posen

This dress accentuates Ashley’s curves exquisitely and the slightly asymmetric neckline adds something different to this classic dress. She lets her beauty do the talking with slicked back hair and minimal jewellery.

Kiki Layne

Wearing Versace

This baby pink colour looks stunning on Kiki. A somewhat simple and chic dress from the front, but the back features an oversized bow which adds an element of fun. We think she hit just the right mark between taking a fashion risk and looking elegant & classic.

Michelle Yeoh

Wearing Elie Saab

Michelle’s ballgown is super glamorous, but the pops of colour from the pink, yellow and blue sequins keep it playful.  Wearing classic jewellery and a complementary clutch Michelle knows how to play up such an incredible dress.

Wearing Georges Chakra Couture

Meagan has put a twist on the usual Grecian inspired gown by using a bright pink instead of white and incorporating sheer panels for some added sexiness. She needed very few accessories with such a dress, so her sliver minimal heels and drop earrings are perfect.

Jennifer Hudson

Wearing Elie Saab

Jennifer stood out in this fire engine red gown. The ruffle and one sleeve details make this dress interesting without looking over the top. We love her sleek updo and neutral makeup which help to complement the dress rather than fight for attention.

Regina King

Wearing Oscar De La Renta

How stunning is this white gown? Regina King looked glamorous and chic in this drapey Oscar De La Renta creation.  Tonnes of glittering jewellery, white courts and beachy waves completed this effortless look.

Stephan James

Wearing Etro

We love a guy that does something different on the red carpet. Stephan James’ velvet 3-piece-suit demonstrates how just changing the fabric on a classic suit can really change your whole look up. Adding slick boots, an oversized bow-tie and brooch Stephan looks smart yet cool.

Vanity Fair Afterparty Honourable Mentions

Rosie Huntington Whiteley

Wearing Versace

Wow! Rosie shows us how to do sparkles in this Versace gown. The gown is already showstopping but the added thigh split and asymmetric neckline make it modern and interesting. She paired the dress with matching sparkling jewellery & shoes, sleek hair and her classic bombshell makeup.

Emma Roberts

Wearing Yanina Couture

Emma Roberts looks incredible in this gold ensemble. We love how she’s paired a super glam embellished and sheer gown with cool it-girl hair and makeup.

Elizabeth Banks

Wearing Monique Huillier

We love that Elizabeth’s went with something a bit different from the normal gown. This off-the-shoulder look has all the sophistication of a classic ballgown but with the added playfulness of a co-ord. Plus her turquoise contrasting earrings and ring make the look even more youthful and carefree.

Gabrielle Union

Wearing Valentino

This look is the epitome of red-carpet chic. The straight cut of this red satin gown paired with her messy cropped hair makes Gabrielle look effortlessly beautiful.

Allison Janney

Wearing Lela Rose

Allison looks so elegant in this look. We love how she balances fun features such as an asymmetric neckline with more classic red carpet features like simple hair and makeup and diamond jewellery. This look is perfectly polished and shows that Allison knows sometimes less is more.
