Christmas is coming and that can only mean one thing: Shopping! Whether you’re searching for the perfect independently made gift or that stunning outfit for the office party, you’re likely to find yourself in Cardiff city centre at some point this holiday season. If you’re feeling peckish, we’ve compiled a list of some of the best places to fuel up before getting back to the shops.
Franks, Cardiff Market
If you’re looking for something quick on the go, head over to Cardiff market and check out Franks. This stall selling everyone’s favourite Street food staple has recently celebrated its second year of business. First, choose from either British pork or veggie frankfurter, then dress your dog in any of the toppings on offer. From kraut to cheese sauce, there are endless combinations to create your perfect hot dog.
Pitch, Mill Lane
This bar and restaurant can be found tucked away in Mill Lane. Pitch pride themselves on being one of the only Cardiff restaurants to serve local produce to create innovative flavours. If you fancy a drink with your meal, Pitch serves a variety of cocktails to suit any taste. Visiting on a Sunday? Check out their mouth-watering Sunday roasts. Choose from beef, pork, chicken, or vegetarian. Each roast comes with roasties, Yorkshires, locally sourced vegetables & rosemary gravy.
Kindle, Sophia Gardens
Kindle is a unique dining spot in the city centre. Opened by husband-and-wife Deb and Phill Lewis, Kindle utilises local ingredients to create exceptional small plates. Fire is a crucial ingredient. Every dish is ‘touched by fire’. The smoky smell makes this restaurant an atmospheric experience that you’ll most definitely remember.
La Pantera, Quay Street
Have you ever tried an “unauthentic taco”? La Pantera is a fun spot to grab some casual yet vibrant food. Each week the menu changes, providing taco fillings that are sure to pique your interest. They’ve featured some incredibly unique choices, including (but not limited to) pheasant 2 ways, crab mac ‘n’ cheese, and caramelised peaches. They also specialise in agave spirits which they encourage customers to learn about in their friendly, informal environment.
New York Deli, Duke St Arcade
New York Deli is a local gem. Living up to its big-apple-inspired name, the portions are perfect for hungry shoppers looking for a quick (but big) bite to eat. Selling both hot and cold options, they certainly have a signature sandwich that you want to try. Grab a root beer and a Ruben and embrace the Manhattan vibes in Duke St Arcade.
