There’s no doubt that Albany gallery hold some of the most prestigious pieces of art anyone has ever seen. Their latest exhibition warmly welcomes amazing work by David Barnes, Russ Chester, David Grosvenor, Siôn McIntyre, Diane Metcalfe and Rob Piercy. All these artists were either born in Wales or grew up in it and have formed a bond and a connection with Wales. The exhibition opens from the 10th February at 5pm until 8pm til the 4th of March. Russ Chester will be making a grand appearance with copies of his book ‘Y daith yn fy nghalon / The journey in my heart’ which will be available to purchase on the night.
David Grosvenor is one of the prestigious artists that will be exhibited. He used to be a graphic designer as well as an illustrator until 30 years ago when he took the leap of faith and left that career behind and gain a new one in painting. He studied Fine Art, in which he gained a particular style known as ‘La Prima’ which means to capture a fleeting moment.
Russ Chester is another artist to be welcomed into the gallery to be exhibited. He moved to Wales in 1970 and fell in love with the local farms and surrounding areas which gave him a completely different experience to Wales than what the locals have. He’s gained access to some areas that locals haven’t such as far corners of fields, lost little lanes, into farmyards and into peoples lives.
David Barnes was born in Africa but spent most of his professional practice as an accountant in parts of the UK, Europe and Africa. His degree was in History and economics in an Open University which is where he was asked to teach on a subject about financial management. He retired from this and invested in a new career of painting.
Opened in 1965, Albany Gallery is known as one of Wales’s most established and privately owned galleries, which has been successful in showcasing solo and group shows and exhibiting a variety of media. It’s and experience that everyone should see at least once. For more information of the artists the complete exhibition can be viewed on their website www.albanygallery.com.
